The ethos

Most of the web is paid for by advertising, which means most of the web is paid for by your attention. We didn't want to make a thing like that. So we made the oldest kind of publication instead: one the reader pays for, directly, and that therefore answers only to the reader.

Three pieces a month are free, for anyone, forever. The rest is for members — not because it's better writing, but because someone has to keep the lights on, and we'd rather it were you than an advertiser who wants to reach you.

The promises

No advertising. No trackers. No infinite scroll. When we publish a piece, the words are fixed — corrections are noted, never quietly swapped in. The page loads fast because there is nothing on it but the page.

A page that respects your attention is a radical object now. We intend to make a great many of them.
